Mahindra Finance
At Mahindra Finance, we feel a strong sense of responsibility towards the environment in which we thrive. Hence, the very essence of our business model is based on a vision to enable and augment Sustainable Development.
With an active sustainability council comprising the senior management, we work with great dedication to ensure that the principles of sustainability are deeply embedded in the company's working and planning systems. We also aim to reduce the ecological impact of our operations and to restrategise businesses in order to achieve sustainable growth.
Being a Triple Bottom Line company, we greatly focus on the below three essential pillars:
People: Ensuring fair and beneficial business practices with respect to labour, the community and the region in which we conduct our operations.
Planet: Sustainable environmental practices to maintain the natural balance and harmony of elements and resources.
Profit: It is the economic yield shared by all the stakeholders involved.
Alternative Thinking
In a world where we're grappling with emerging issues such as climate change, energy, food and water shortages, accelerated loss of biodiversity, persistent poverty and an ever-widening gap between the have and the have-nots, Alternative Thinking becomes highly imperative. We at Mahindra Finance have been actively putting this philosophy into practice across various disciplines and it has been our persistent endeavour to integrate it into our ethos.
Awareness among employees
Awareness among employees: We've designed an all-India employee awareness programme that employs numerous presentations to generate more mindfulness about the issue of sustainability. In addition, our induction programme, DRONA, has been created to ensure that the awareness starts right from the time our employees join the family.
Sustainability Corner: Our Head Office in Mumbai has a dedicated area called the 'Sustainability Corner' to keep the internal audience up-to-speed with the latest on various initiatives around sustainability.
Monday Greens: Here's another unique initiative to foster the culture of Sustainability amongst our employees. Every Monday, we send out resourceful ideas on the concept of 'Sustainability', so that it moves beyond from being just an intellectual concept to an integral part of our daily lives.
Lifeline Express
Lifeline Express: Many parts of rural India lags behind when it comes to adequate medical facilities. To address this basic need, we've committed ourselves to the Lifeline Express. Above 2,500 patients suffering from disabilities like cleft lip, deafness, polio (for children under 14 years) and cataract are treated on-board. Mahindra Finance conducted its first ever solo journey of the Lifeline Express at Puri (Odisha) from 24th September to 14th October, 2012.
Blood Donation Drive: Mahindra Finance has also been conducting Nationwide Blood Donation Camps and Annual Blood Donation drives to commemorate its pledge to society under the banner of Employee Social Options (ESOPS) along with various other social projects. We actively organised a nationwide blood donation drive in 2012-13 and collected 1,084 bottles of blood.
Ambulance Donation Camp: Understanding the importance of swift medical aid, Mahindra Finance has been donating funds for the purchase of ambulances to various foundations like Ekta Institute of Child Health, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Delhi Bharat Vikas Parishad Foundation, Dean Foundation, Mamta Foundation, Liver Foundation and Shroff's Foundation Trust.
Palliative care centre: We donated funds to support a palliative care centre in Madhya Pradesh Cancer Chikitsa Evam Seva Samitee.
Cancer detection camp: We partnered with the Cancer Patients Aid Association to conduct cancer detection camps in Dharward's interiors. As many as 431 people were treated in these camps and advised on further action plan.
Diesel generator
Diesel generator (DG) set donation: For the well-being of street kids, we donated DG sets at various welfare societies, such as Pradesh Children Village, Shri Nakoda Karna Badheer School and Karuna Welfare Trust.
Mahindra Hariyali: The Mahindra Group has taken on a mission of planting 1 million trees across the country and we intend to stick to our commitment with unwavering resolve. Last year, we planted around 54,000 saplings across India. Fortunately, we have the generous support of numerous schools, colleges, trusts, government forest departments and old-age homes that just adds to the momentum. After all, with a mission like this, there can never be enough helping hands, and too many trees.
Village Electrification Project: In yet another step towards sustainability, we've initiated this project to help brighten India's remote areas by harnessing the natural goodness of the sun. We continued lighting up lives of less fortunate people in Tamil Nadu's interior locations in 2012-13. We conducted need analysis in the area and, based on the findings, installed 165 solar streetlights. The ambition, however, is to eradicate darkness from every corner of India and help people achieve more from life.
Nanhi Kali: Here's another nation-wide initiative we're proud to be part of. Initiated in 1996 by the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust, Nanhi Kali is a focused approach to provide primary education and material support to the underprivileged girl child. It is a participatory project and any individual or corporate can sponsor a Nanhi Kali Education. Since 2005, we have been taking this mission forward in partnership with Naandi Foundation, a reputed NGO. This highly successful project currently supports over 74,665 girls.
Besides these, we have several other initiatives that focus on issues like saving paper, reducing electricity consumption, etc., all in an effort to further our vision of a healthy, harmonious and self-reliant planet.
